FLOATS AND SKIS

This is an actual photo of a Swift on skis.
Swift historian Jim Montague picks things up from there...

"N78160 was owned by Joe Hohenauer, and was based just about 15 miles North of Lake Elmo, MN at Benson's airport, a 2000' grass strip, that is not on the charts because of the length of the runway. With a 125, wood prop and gear down, maybe 100 mph was possible, but it was still adequate I suppose, to keep up to the J-3's and Taylorcrafts."

But the excerpt below from a Swift brochure is pure fantasy...

This was an airbrushed conception of YOUR Swift on floats.  Well, one can only imagine how
well an 85hp Swift would perform with the added burden of floats.  According to our Swift
historian Jim Montague...

"Boy optimistic! They must have believed the 85 hp Swift was a real performer to think
it would work on floats! I do believe it was just an advertising mans dream.
"
