F is for Fairfield
Fairfield is located in California, between San Francisco and Sacramento. Fairfield was founded by a clipper ship captain in 1856.He named the town after Fairfield, Connecticut, where he had grown up. Some of the first settlers were Robert H. Waterman and his crew. The only people who lived here before the settlers were the some of the Patwin tribes (Tolenas, Suisun, Ululatos, Libatos, and the Malacas). Two major rivers that flow past Fairfield are the Sacramento River and the Joaquin River. These rivers flow into the Suisun Marsh, which is next to Fairfield. Two major cities near Fairfield are Vallejo and Vacaville. Six strong reasons why people chose to settle in Fairfield are because we have fresh water, they thought that Fairfield was a better place, the settlers thought there were streets of gold, we have plenty of food, back East the winters were harsh and they are not in Fairfield, and we are near some gold mines. Three important people that helped settle Fairfield are Robert H. Waterman, John Currey, and Archibald Ritchie. The first jobs in Fairfield were farming, small businesses, and the schools.
