Immigrants by Ellen

An immigrant is someone who comes from one country to live permanently in another. Some people who first came here were Juan Pena, Juan Vaca, Jose Armijo, and John Wolfskill.

John Wolfskill was one of the first people to come to Solano County. He planted an orchard, a vineyard and several other crops. John helped his brother by helping him plant fruit and other crops. In a few years John wanted to own his own land. John found out about a place near Putah Creek that he liked. John, at first he didn't get the land. Finally he got the land. He lived there for the rest of his life.

A few places where immigrants came from are China, Great Britain, Spain, and France. They came to Solano County because the weather conditions aren't too hot or too cold. Another reason why they came to Solano County is there was plenty of food around and people going to the Gold Rush had to go through Solano County.

Here are more reasons why people choose Solano County: There was a lot of space to live in, they also had a chance to own land, crops and orchards grow very easily in our soil, and it was close to Sacramento and San Francisco.
